What does 2020 vision mean to you?

As we begin the first days of the year 2020, many people are carrying with them a prophetic expectation that this will be a year of clarity . . . of 2020 vision and insight. Today, I sat down with my son Joseph to explore what such a year might mean for us all.

Jeff: Joseph, I’m imagining God gifting us a pair of supernatural goggles that allow us to see everything exactly as it is. What do imagine you would be able to see with them and what difference would that make?

Joseph: You could see angels and demons and all the work they are doing—everything spiritual and physical. If you look at a person you would see everything, even their hidden emotions. You could see peoples fears and insecurities . . . the real them with no masks, filters or walls put up—the authentic version of them. You see them as God sees them without being influenced by the way you normally think about people.

. . . and you could see into situations. You could watch people get prospered and see why. You could see the reason behind every action and the outcome of every decision before it happens. You would know the truth in everything. You would know what’s right and what’s wrong without being swayed or influenced by even your own opinion—you just know the truth. and what to do. You could see solutions to every problem.

Jeff: Wow, great. That would be such a gift to be able to see that clearly. What do you think you would do with it and how would you use this?

Joseph: You’d have to make sure you weren’t using it for the wrong reasons. It’s not really made for personal gain.

Jeff: Yeah, good point, but let’s assume you wanted to use it well. If you had it, how would you use it for positive purposes?

Joseph: You could pretty much subtly guide other people. You would pretty much be an angel at that point. You’d be able to make good decisions and they would all work out best in the long term. If I saw a massive change that was going to ruin heaps of people’s lives I could warn people. I don’t know. It kind of like that you would just have to live with the fact that you know everything.

Jeff: So to get the most out of the vision goggles, you also need people to listen?

Joseph: Yeah, ‘cause it’s for their own good.

Jeff: So maybe you would need to slowly build trust. If you got it right every time, people would trust you more.

Joseph: They would build up confidence in you. Once everyone had confidence in you you could help more and more people.

Jeff: So there would be a lot of potential to do a lot of good, but what would it mean for you on an ordinary day? What would it change?

Joseph: I could connect with people better and I’d have advice for people about everyday situations. Actually, there would be so much coming into your brain it would be really hard.

Jeff: Overwhelming?

Joseph: Yes

Jeff: Would you have the ability to see priorities?

Joseph: Well, everything is important because it’s important for people. Everything is the same priority really.

Jeff: So like all the superheroes, the gift is a curse and a blessing at the same time. I hadn’t thought about it that way. It would end up being a big responsibility. . . alright. So to finish, what do you think would hinder you from making the most of this gift?

Joseph: It might be so overwhelming that you sort of give up and don’t do much with it.

. . . you could start using it for the wrong reasons. even though you see everything purely you would get to decide how you use it.

. . . you might be fearful to make big decisions to fix the large problems or be afraid to waste the blessing that has been given to you. You could know so much it could just feed your fears.

. . . you might feel betrayal from everyone because you see everyone’s thoughts about you.

Jeff: So not always an easy gift. Those were interesting and helpful answers, especially as we look forward to this year. Obviously, we don’t have magic goggles, but Joseph, in your opinion, if 2020 is the year where we have absolute clarity of vision, what do you think we should be thinking about for that?

Joseph: I think we need to take the vision we have and use it to help others. At least we are not being overwhelmed by the mass majority of all needs and problems in the world. We need to be prepared for God to trust you with more vision and responsibility and blessing. They all sort of go together.

Jeff: That’s fantastic, Joseph, and very insightful. It has given us a lot to think about. I guess we will all be reflecting on those kinds of questions and our own answers as we move forward into what promises to be a very illuminating year.
